The author of this book, Dr, Ms.YouMee Lee is an accomplished scholar in the field of Buddhist studies. She received her first degree from the Buddhist and Pali University of Sri Lanka, and subsequently completed her Masters and Doctorate in Buddhist studies at the Postgraduate Institute of Pali and Buddhist Studies, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka. The present work is based on her doctoral research which covers even a larger area than what is focused here. As revealed from her treatment of the subject matter the author is quite at home with the Pali canon. In fact Dr. Lee has devoted so much effort in studying Pali language following the ancient grammatical traditions preserved in Sri Lanka. She may well be described as a leading contemporary Pali scholar of Korean nationality. The present work is a significant contribution to the field of Buddhist studies in particular and religious and psychological studies in general. This book unearths the rich resources of Buddhist literature directly dealing with human situation. In Buddhism all theoretical studies ultimately are to be grounded on the practical nirvanic goal. The present work by an author who herself treads the Pali serves as a guide to her fellow travelers in the path to terminate all suffering. This is well researched information substantiated by canonical and commentarial evidence.
